Chinese Consortium Acquires Some Parts Of Opera Browser




If you are an ardent reader of this blog Entclass.com, you will remember when i published a post concerning Opera to be sold at $1.2 billion to Chinese companies. But the news now is that, the deal has been changed, whereas, there have been new development in the deal.

The company that gonna buy Opera is a Chinese company called the Consortium. They are not buying Opera as a whole but they are buying some part of the company's business. According to source, Opera's Board of Directors has approved this deal. I'm going to list out the parts of the company that the Chinese Consortium will be buying.
  • Mobile Browser, including Operator Co-brand solutions
  • Desktop Browser
  • Performance and Privacy Apps
  • Opera’s technology licensing business outside of Opera TV
  • Opera’s 29.09% ownership in the Chinese joint venture

Below is the following parts of Opera that will not be sold:
  • Opera Mediaworks
  • Opera Apps & Games (including Bemobi)
  • Opera TV

The remaining parts of Opera will now have a new name entirely. And the worth of this deal is now estimated to $660 million. Though, the deal is still pending approvals from different regulatory authorities.
