Android Oreo now Features Always-On Display

This sounds like a good news to all Android Oreo users. The Always-on Display is now made available on Android Oreo ROM. This was discovered by a user at XDA developer forum. According to him, he said he found a way to run it on any rooted Android Oreo phone.

A mere modification of the AmbientDisplayConfiguration.java will make the Always-On Display option to appear in Settings once “false” is changed to “true”. Then the Always On Ambient Display pops up inside System UI Tuner. Many unofficial ports already enabled the feature.

According to rumors on the internet, Google planned to add the Always On Display feature to Pixel 2 XL. But you don't necessarily have to wait for it. If you have a phone running on Oreo OS, then you can achieve this on the phone.

Google’s implementation works similarly to Samsung’s or LG’s Always-On Display. The clock is always visible, a notification appears with full content, before fading into an icon. A possible reason for lacking the feature in the official version is that Google is adding some final touches or the current version is unstable.

The Always-On Display might be officially announced with the Pixel 2 unveiling that is taking place on October 4 2017.
