Google Testing New Gmail with Self Destructing Message

Google's email service - Gmail - is currently receiving a new redesigned interface for its web version. Although it's still in beta testing. The new design got some cool features that would allow you to send expiring email message dubbed Self Destructing Message.

The new self-destructing message will allow you to send expiring emails that will get deleted automatically when the set time elapsed. For now, there's no word on whether it will be compatible to other email providers and clients.

Google is perhaps evolving beyond the simple POP3/IMAP/SMTP protocols, with some of the email providers, like ProtonMail already offering expiring emails support that expires after a specific time, and becomes unreadable.

ProtonMail users can only send an expiring message to another ProtonMail user, and it appears as a regular email in the inbox, but after the expiry date, the message is automatically deleted from the recipient's inbox and the sender’s outbox as well.

You can set the email message to expire after a week, month or year. Also, Gmail users can also ask the recipient to confirm their identity with a passcode sent via text message before they can access the message.

The new redesigned Gmail will also feature smart reply, and a more easy way to access G-Suite apps from within Gmail, and it's expected to be officially rolled out to the general public in the coming week.
