At long last, it's now official that Whatsapp will start displaying ads in Status section of the app. After about a year of rumors, Whatsapp Vice President - Chris Daniels - has confirmed that the days of ad-free Whatsapp is numbered.
Chris Daniels went ahead to tell Outlook India that they are going to be putting ads in Whatsapp Status. And it will be the primary monetisation mode for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp.
The Status feature on WhatsApp is like Instagram Stories or Facebook My Day, which disappears after 24hrs. Users can add pictures, videos, gifs to their Whatsapp status that disappears 24 hours after posting.
Recall when Whatsapp was planning on yearly $1 fee? Users didn't welcome the idea which now led to putting ads in Status, as a monetization mode for the company.
However, the decision has been made. Though Chris Daniels didn't give a date on when the ads will appear. But reports suggested that targeted ads will arrive on the platform beginning in 2019.
