How I Rooted My Gionee M6 Running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Gionee M6 is an awesome device with incredible specifications and features. The phone is so secured from security threats, as the bootloader is locked. Gionee M6 (e.g M6_0103_V5506) is powered by the MT6755 Mediatek Helio P10 SoC and runs on Android 6 Marshmallow. The phone has a private space feature that is highly encrypted and can be locked with the owners fingerprint; making it almost impossible for another person to unlock or view what is inside.

Since the official launch of this smartphone, users of the phone has been complaining of how stubborn the phone is when trying to root it. Yes, we know that Android phones running on Marshmallow is very difficult to root; but all thanks to Team Hovatek for providing the required files and the TWRP for rooting Gionee M6.

Gionee M6 Plus was the successor to the Gionee M6, though with little differences. You can see the full specifications of Gionee M6 and the Gionee M6 Plus.

  • Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s internal storage

  • When the phone enters Fastboot, load the Philz recovery to the phone by typing the command below then pressing Enter
  • fastboot boot recovery.img
  • The phone should automatically boot into Philz recovery mode
  • In Philz recovery, you use the Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select
  • Select Install Zip

  • Wait till flashing is complete
  • If you are prompted to fix root, select No
  • Reboot the phone normally
  • rooting gionee m6

Congrats, your Gionee M6 is now rooted and you can confirm this by installing and running root checker app.

Now, you are free to perform all the tweaks and tricks possible on a rooted phone but honestly this would really expose your phone to security threats unlike when the Bootloader was still intact. That's all friends.

    1. You better don't try it. Or better still, buy a phone that runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, as it can be rooted easily using KingRoot app, pending when Kingroot will be able to root Android 6.0 marshmallow.
