Opera discontinues Opera Max VPN service

December last year, Opera Max announced hitting 50 Million active users using both the free and VIP mode; but unfortunately, Opera is discontinuing its Opera Max service.

According to the blog post written by the company, they said;
Opera Max had a "substantially different value proposition than our browser products, and represented a different focus for Opera."

All been said, the company concluded that it will be focusing only on its browsers and upcoming products that are yet to be released.

If you have been using Opera Max, you'll agree with me that it's a wonderful VPN. This app route all the consumed data on your device, whether it was over Wi-Fi or mobile network, through Opera's VPN server.

It did this primarily to compress the size of all media files on all the apps, including images, videos and music which serves as a data saver too. By running it through a VPN, it also masked the data from your ISP.

Moreso, the company has removed Opera Max from Playstore, and service to existing users will continue for a short period of time and Opera will be informing them when it's time to pull the plug server-side.
