Facebook Messenger now allows High 4K Images Resolution

Previously, Facebook Messenger automatically resize photos that are being sent on the app to 2K resolution which means 2048 x 2048pixels. But now, the social network giant has officially increased the resolution to 2times the previous number.

The resolution of photos shared on Messenger has been increased to what Facebook calls 4K - meaning 4096 x 4096pixels. Actually, not just Facebook messenger app, other messaging apps like Telegram, and Whatsapp all apply some kind of compression before photos reach the person they are being sent to.

Now, if you send photos from an iPhone X, Pixel 2, or Samsung Galaxy S8 or Note8, your recipient should get them at full resolution. Facebook also mentions the photos will be sent “just as quickly as before”, so there must be some new kind of file size reduction at play.

The new high resolution images feature known as "4K images" is now rolling out on iPhone and Android users in the US, Canada, France, Australia, the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea.

According to Facebook, more countries would be receiving the new 4K images feature in the coming weeks.
