Latest Chrome Update Brings Not Secure Alert and Spectre Fix

Google Chrome for Android and Desktop are getting some new updates. The Desktop version brings the Not Secure alert for webpages with HTTP connection.

Recall early this year, Google made it known to all site owners that they will start marking sites with HTTP connection as "Not Secure" come July 2018, and now, it's here.

While Chrome for Android brings a fix against the Spectre vulnerability, as well as a horizontal tab switcher that was first released on Chrome Canary. The Horizontal tab switcher looks like the Android P recent apps menu.

In addition, the new Chrome update brings a security feature known as Site Isolation that simply loads a webpage in a different processes to prevent malicious sites from hijacking any sensitive data such like passwords, emails, credit card details, cookies etc.

You can equally disable the feature via Chrome flag “chrome://flags/#enable-site-per-process”.

The latest Chrome "Not Secure" alert will appear in the address bar, next to the site link, which will mark all HTTP pages as insecure. When you first load the page, the warning will appear next to the site url in the address bar, but if you try to type in any personal info like emails or passwords, the “Not Secure” tab will turn red.
