How to Activate Profile Lock Feature on Facebook

Facebook has introduced a privacy feature that allows users to be able to limit their profile information to the public. In essence, the option describes that the user's details is generally unavailable except for Friends

To identify an account that has a locked profile, you'll see a shield icon highlighted on it. This restricted setting can be toggled on and off according to your preference. Once a user activates this option, there is a number of information that non-friends won't see. This includes:

  • The user's profile photo (in full) and cover photo
  • The user's timeline photos and posts
  • Stories
  • General uploads on user's profile page

You should also take note that any post shared in the past which was initially available for Everyone would automatically change for Friends only. The timeline review and tag review will become active as well. Basically, only a portion of the user's information will be viewed by everyone on the user's profile.

How to Activate the Facebook Lock Profile Option

  • Open Facebook app on your device and go to your Profile Page
  • Select the three-dotted icon located at the right of "Add to Story" just below your Profile Picture
  • You will see the option to "Lock Profile". Facebook will then request for a final confirmation.
